Tips for Breast Augmentation Recovery

Posted on

If you are planning on going through with a breast augmentation, you might want to learn a little about what to expect during the recovery process. This way, you will have less to worry about and you will be less likely to come across too many problems. Therefore, take a moment to reflect on the following tips on things to do after you come home from your surgery.

Take It Easy

It is important to make sure that you are taking it easy for a couple of weeks after the completion of your breast augmentation. This is because you do not want to put excess strain on the incisions, which could rip apart. Therefore, you will want to allow someone else to handle the cooking and cleaning. If need be, you can always go shopping prior to the scheduled surgery so that you can stock your home with food that is easy to make in a microwave. You will want to find someone to help around the house if you have any small children at home that require a lot of hands-on attention. You might also want to stock up on bottled water and other drinks so that you do not have to strain to carry and pour anything too heavy. Keep things that you use regularly off of high shelves so that you are not stretching.

Rest in an Inclined Position

You will want to use a lot of pillows to help keep your upper body raised up in bed while you are resting. Do not lay flat on your back. By doing this, you will help ensure that you are going to be able to keep the swelling down. Your surgeon might also suggest other ways to keep the swelling away, such as taking certain prescription or over-the-counter medications.

Ice Your Chest

Your doctor may suggest that you use ice packs on your augmented breasts in order to help with the healing. The exact amount of time you will need to use the ice packs will vary according to your doctor's professional opinion. To help you accomplish this, you will want to find soft gel ice packs, usually meant for being packed in with a child's school lunch. Place a small bowl upside down in the freezer and then lay the ice pack over that, so that it lies over the sides of the bowl. This way, when it freezes and you go to use it, the ice pack will already have curve in it, which will make it easier to rest over the front of your breasts. Wearing a soft athletic bra will help keep the ice packs in place while you are using them.

Watch What You Wear

Make sure to only wear shirts that button in the front. Pulling shirts on and off over your head can put too much strain on your incisions. Do not return to using such shirts until you have been cleared by your surgeon to go back to work or to resume normal activity.

With the previously mentioned tips in mind, you should have no problem making sure that you are getting through your breast augmentation recovery with ease.
